The Two Year Story

Dear Son,

Holy Cow! Where did the time go? You are now 2 years old! 2 years old!

It doesn’t seem that long to be honest. Time has flown in those years.

This past year you have learned so much, you are talking, laughing, and your personality has changed so much for the better, except when you say “NO” to everything. I’ll be the first admit when you talk, I have no clue what you are saying. I need some sort of translator, usually your mom, to tell me what you mean.

There are many things I could complain about, but you know what, I am going to miss the things I complain about. The 2AM wake up calls, the consent need to watch “The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” the desire to walk on my feet and stand on them when I am sitting down… well maybe I won’t miss that part. You know, I will miss everything about this age. I don’t want you to grow up.

I say I don’t want you to grow up, but the reality of it is, I do. I want to see you learn new things and explore the world around you. You need to eat a bug once just to taste it. You need to have the experience of your first day of school. All of those things I look forward to, yes even the eating a bug part.

Kid, I love you! I wouldn’t dream of our family a different way. ┬áHere is to another year!

Love,
Daddy

  1. Yeah, it’s a magical age full of wonder that’s also a great pain in the ass. My 2 year old just entered what we call the “Yes/No” phase, where every answer he provides includes both yes and no options. Want breakfast? Can I have a hug and kiss goodbye? You have to laugh at this stage. Otherwise you’ll have a stroke.

  2. I loved two. I miss two. They grow up too fast.
